Writing Lines in Standard Form

Writing lines (linear equations) in Standard Form is a must know skill for algebra students.  Often times we see lines in y = mx + b  form (example y= 3x + 7) and this is good if we want to graph a line using the slope-intercept method.  However a line in Standard Form ( Ax + By = C  example  3x +  4y= 12 )is easy to graph using the x and y intercept method.

Key concepts to remember:

* lines can be written in slope-intercept or standard form
* graphing lines in standard form is easy by finding the x and y intercepts

some key topics that involve writing lines in standard form:

* using the point-slope formula
* slope
* slope-intercept formula
* linear word models
