Find The Discriminant Quadratic Formula Example 1

Here is an example of finding the type of roots using the discriminant.  Remember to read the lesson on this topic.

Basic steps to follow:

1. First understand the discriminant is part of the quadratic formula- the part inside the square root
2. The purpose of the discriminant is to indicate what type of roots a quadratic equations has; i.e. real or imaginary solutions
3. When the discriminant is a positive number the roots are real, negative the roots are imaginary and zero the solution is a double root
