Two Variable Inequality Example 1

Here is an example of how to solve and graph a two variable inequality.  Remember to read the lesson on this topic.

Basic steps to follow:

1. First graph the line of the inequality; pay special attention to your line < and > will be dashed lines and ≤ ≥ lines will be solid
2. Select a point on the graph to determine what side of the line is the solution region; always use the point (0, 0) unless the line runs through the center
3. Plug in your test value (0, 0) into the inequality to see if the values generates a true or false statement; shade your graph toward the true side

Important habits to master math:

1. write out all steps
2. be very neat
3. use pencil not pen
4. review your work as your go
5. make sure you know the basics like fractions, positive and negative numbers and order of operations
