Graphing Functions Example 1

Here is an example of how to graph a function.  Remember to read the lesson on this topic.

Basic steps to follow:

1. First understand that there are many different type of functions each with specific steps to graph
2. However we can take the basic shape of a function and move it up or down or side to side- these moves are called translations
3. Number operations outside of the main function impact up and down moves on the graph; operations inside the main function generally move a function side to side
4. These steps are very general – you need to study each type of function specifically to really master graphing functions

Functions and Relations-graphing-1

Important habits to master math:

1. write out all steps
2. be very neat
3. use pencil not pen
4. review your work as your go
5. make sure you know the basics like fractions, positive and negative numbers and order of operations
