Function Inverse

The inverse of a function is like a function’s “anti-function”.  To put this another way an inverse function undoes a function.  As you can see below an inverse function’s domain and range are the exact opposite of that of the function.  As an algebra student not only do you want to understand the concept of inverse functions but you need to master how to find them- the notes below will really help!

Key concepts to remember:

* functions are special type of relations
* the graph of a function and it’s inverse will be symmetric along the y = x line
* the composite function of a function and it’s inverse will always be = x (assuming your functions are using x as there variable)

some key topics that involve function inverses:

* finding range and domain
* transformations of graphs
* composite functions
* more complex college prep math
